The inaugural three-day AI in Higher Education Summit, held at Egerton University, drew to a close on Thursday with a stirring keynote address by cybersecurity expert Dr. Katherine Getao, and a series of reflections from university leadership, faculty, alumni, and students. The summit, which ran from 14th to 16th October 2025, was hosted under the theme “Generative AI in Higher Education Teaching, Learning, and Research: Candid Confrontations.”
The Kenya National Research Festival drew to a close at Egerton University on 22 August 2025 with a strong call for translating science into tangible solutions for society. Presiding over the closing ceremony, Prof. Shaukat Abdulrazak, Principal Secretary in the State Department for Science, Research and Innovation, emphasised that the country’s development depends on how effectively research outcomes are turned into practical tools for communities.
The Agroscience Park at Egerton University attracted more than 300 farmers during the National Research Festival. Farmers saw new technologies tested under real farm conditions.Researchers showed progress in participatory variety selection. Trials for diseases such as halo blight in beans, ascochyta blight in chickpea, fusarium wilt in pigeon peas, necrotic disease in maize, and blast in millets were on display. Fertilizer and foliar spray trials were also presented.
