A researcher from Egerton University has secured an international research grant that could help integrate artificial intelligence into farming and strengthen technological innovation in Kenya’s agricultural sector.Dr. Patrick Wamalwa from the Department of Agricultural Engineering has been selected for the African Futures Research Leadership Program (AFRLP) Cohort 6 for 2026, an initiative supported by the Alliance for African Partnership.

Egerton University today commenced a two-day Research-to-Commercialisation (R2C) capacity-building training aimed at equipping researchers, faculty and student innovators with practical skills to move their innovations from ideation to viable products. 

The inaugural three-day AI in Higher Education Summit, held at Egerton University, drew to a close on Thursday with a stirring keynote address by cybersecurity expert Dr. Katherine Getao, and a series of reflections from university leadership, faculty, alumni, and students. The summit, which ran from 14th to 16th October 2025, was hosted under the theme “Generative AI in Higher Education Teaching, Learning, and Research: Candid Confrontations.”
