The Safe Food Reference Laboratory (SAF-Lab), funded by the National Research Fund, is a hub of innovation, research, and practical solutions. At the forefront of this revolution is the Aloe Secundiflora Innovation Project, led by Professor Charles Muleke Inyagwa.

Staff at Egerton University were joined by students from Egerton Primary, Kilimo Primary, and Kilimo Secondary Schools to plant 4,000 tree seedlings. This initiative follows a directive from Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, Principal Secretary of the State Department of Higher Education and Research at the Ministry of Education, urging all public universities to plant trees on Friday, May 24, 2024. This effort is part of the Presidential Initiative to plant 15 billion trees by 2032. Since its launch in December 2022, Egerton University has planted a total of 18,000 seedlings to this environmental cause.
