SUMMARY

Prof. Josiah O. Omolo, an associate professor of Organic Chemistry at Egerton University, epitomizes innovation and leadership in the realm of natural product chemistry. With a storied career that began in 1994 as an Assistant Lecturer, Prof. Omolo swiftly ascended the ranks, leaving an indelible mark as a former Dean of the Faculty of Science and Director of Marketing and Resource Mobilization, Egerton University. Armed with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Chemistry from Kenyatta University, acquired through a prestigious DAAD sandwich program with Technical University of Kaiserslautern, Germany, his expertise extends across continents. Prof. Omolo's ground-breaking research focuses on harnessing the untapped potential of Kenyan eco-habitats, where he delves deep into the world of plants and fungi to unearth biologically significant molecules. His mastery of fungal biotechnology drives the production and elucidation of secondary metabolites, pivotal in applications spanning agriculture, public health, and environmental sustainability. Prof. Omolo's laboratory stands as a beacon of innovation, boasting established systems for bioactivity-guided compound separation and a diverse array of bioassays targeting a spectrum of ailments. Not content with mere academic pursuits, Prof. Omolo is the Principal Investigator of a pioneering project establishing the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Regional Research Centre (ICGEB RRC), amplifying his global impact. His vision transcends borders, aligning research outcomes with national, regional, and global development blueprints to address pressing issues of food security, health, and climate change. A stalwart in community-based organizations and national committees, Prof. Omolo's dedication to societal welfare is palpable. Join Prof. Omolo's quest for scientific excellence and societal transformation, where groundbreaking research meets tangible global impact.
