Vice Chancellor Prof. Kibwage Hosts Bursa Technical University Team for Collaboration in Material Science and AI. Nakuru, Njoro- 23rd March, 2026 The Vice Chancellor Professor. Isaac Kibwage today in his office received representatives from Bursa Technical University, Turkey who paid him a courtesy visit. Prof. Kibwage took the opportunity to thank the team for the collaboration and praised the robust cordial relations between the two Institutions that had seen Egerton University senior staff visit Turkey.
The VC emphasized the importance of forging strong collaborations between the two institutions to tackle pressing challenges that require strong partnership especially in material science and Artificial Intelligence. And this where Chemistry and Physics team at Egerton University will learn a lot under Erasmus programmes and Funding.
The Vice Chancellor agreed with the proposal of opening Erasmus office at Egerton University that will boost and expand joint International masters programmes and collaboration in other fields which will make collaboration much easier. This will also enhance both students and staff participation in International Conferences where Egerton can participate and explore more opportunities in their areas of specialization.

Also present in the meeting were Prof. Benard Aduda- DVC, Academic Affairs, Prof. George Muthaa-DVC Administration, Finance and Planning, Prof. Nzula Kitaka- Director, Marketing and Resource Mobilization, Prof. George Owuor- Director Research and Extension and Dr. Dickson Makanji- Director Chemeron Campus, who is also Egerton University contact person for the programme. The team led by Alev Cuydur- Lecturer and head of International Relations at Bursa Technical University said the visit was meant to foster international collaboration between Bursa and Egerton University in having a strategic partnership in areas of material science and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The collaboration will facilitate joint faculties exchange programs, and create opportunities for students and staff. Students and researchers stand to benefit from shared resources, joint conferences, and collaborative projects, positioning both universities at the forefront of material science and AI research.
Alev Cuydur praised the collaboration between the two Institutions saying there were more opportunities in the partnership that will expand scope for other faculties to join in programming a part from Forestry and that most funding comes from European Union. This includes study grants for students and staff. She said putting up Erasmus Office at Egerton University will generate big benefits such as access to Erasmus programmes, updates on news and funding opportunities.
In the exchange programme, Egerton senior Staff; Prof. Gilbert Obwoyere and Dr. Dickson Makanji have already been to Turkey under the Bursa Technical University and Egerton collaboration. One Student from Egerton will be leaving for Bursa University to study Master of Science degree in Forestry in May this year. By combining Egerton University's expertise in agricultural and environmental sciences with Bursa’s engineering and technological capabilities, the alliance promises to drive impactful solutions in sustainable materials, and AI-driven research.
