Staff at the Nakuru City Campus College (NCCC) have been urged to embrace teamwork in a bid to achieve efficiency and effectiveness. This message was echoed at a luncheon hosted by NCCC’s Acting Principal, Prof. George Ogendi on Thursday April 24, at a Nakuru hotel.
Prof. Ogendi urged staff to work together in harmony and avoid conflicts that may derail the delivery of the campus’ mandate.
“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity,” he urged citing the Bible in Psalms 133:1.
At the luncheon Prof. Ogendi also encouraged staff to be generous with each other as a way of building and strengthening work-related ties. “The more you give, the more you receive,” he stressed.
NCCC’s Acting Deputy Registrar (DR) Lilian Njau supported the Principal’s sentiments saying “nothing brings people together like a shared meal.” She added “(When) we eat as we talk, we laugh, and tensions evaporate, we bond and know each other better, we become closer and work much better as a team.”
This is the first time that such a teamwork event was taking place since Prof. Ogendi took over the helm of the NCCC following the exit of former Principal, Prof. Joshua Ogendo, who proceeded to Kibabii University as a Deputy Vice Chancellor.
“The principal has started on a right foot because the luncheon meant a lot to staff and showed his commitment to foster team development and collaboration. This gesture motivated staff towards a positive workplace culture,” Ann Kamau, a Student Counsellor at the Dean of Students Office commented.
Staff at the event unanimously agreed to continue hosting such events including planning visits in neighboring countries for both bonding and learning purposes.
“(It) should happen regularly as it enhances teamwork which is very key for productive work,” Stephen Mungai, a staff at the Office of Dean of Students who coordinated the Thursday luncheon added.
