A delegation from Egerton University led by DVC Administration, Finance and Planning Prof George Muthaa and Principal, Nakuru City Campus College Prof George Ogendi visited the Mpeketoni Campus on Monday, 27 April 2026, for a routine check of university facilities.
The visit aimed at taking the new DVC–AFP through the campus and assessing opportunities for development and optimal land utilization.
During the tour, Prof. Muthaa emphasized the need to make productive use of university land by expanding tree cover and strengthening the campus nursery project.
He noted that the area has strong agricultural potential and encouraged staff to explore income-generating initiatives.

Among the proposals discussed was the establishment of a livestock fattening facility, particularly for beef cattle, taking advantage of the campus’ proximity to the Lamu Port, which presents opportunities for agribusiness and market access.

The delegation was received by Peter Mshenga, Technical Assistant at Mpeketoni Campus. Also present during the visit were staff members Francis Obonyo and Jedida Maringa, as well as the Officer in Charge of Security, Francis Mutinda.

The staff briefed the visiting team on ongoing projects and operational needs at the campus.
The team toured the nursery project, inspected trees planted in previous years, and assessed the condition of the university perimeter fence.
They also reviewed ongoing activities at the campus, which include repair of the university fence, construction of a shade net for seedlings under the nursery project, and pruning and maintenance of existing trees.
The visit reaffirmed the university’s commitment to strengthening Mpeketoni Campus as a productive centre for academic, environmental, and agricultural initiatives.
