Egerton University Hosts KEBS Team for ISO 9001:2015 Surveillance Audit

Njoro, June 6, 2026 — Egerton University today commenced the ISO 9001:2015 Surveillance Audit, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining high standards of quality management and continuous improvement in service delivery.

The opening session, held at FEDCOS Theatre II, brought together officials from the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), members of the University Management Board, deans, directors, principals, heads of departments, and staff from various sections of the University.

Speaking during the inception meeting, Egerton University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac O. Kibwage, welcomed the KEBS audit team and underscored the University's commitment to quality assurance and excellence in teaching, research, extension, and administration.

Prof. Kibwage noted that the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System has continued to strengthen institutional efficiency, accountability, and customer satisfaction across the University's operations. He urged members of staff to fully support the audit exercise and view it as an opportunity for continuous improvement.

The surveillance audit is being conducted by a KEBS team led by Ms. Netty Kimaiyo, Lead Auditor, alongside Ms. Mildred Eboi, Auditor, and Ms. Everlyne Muchera, Evaluator. The audit seeks to assess the University's continued conformity to the requirements of the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and evaluate the effectiveness of its implementation across various departments and units.

Representing the University's Quality Management System, Prof. George Muthaa, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration, Finance and Planning) and Management Representative for the Quality Management System, reaffirmed the institution's dedication to sustaining quality standards and enhancing operational performance. He emphasized that quality management remains a shared responsibility requiring commitment from all members of the University community.

The opening session was also attended by Prof. Bernard O. Aduda, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics, Research and Extension), Prof. George Ogendi, Principal of Nakuru City Campus College, Dr. Augustine Sam Muluvi, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and other senior University officials.

Prof. Patrick Simiyu Muliro, Coordinator of ISO Standards at the University's ISO Secretariat, highlighted the role played by various departments and staff members in implementing and maintaining the Quality Management System. He noted that the surveillance audit provides an important platform for evaluating progress made and identifying areas for further improvement.

Throughout the session, University staff actively participated and followed proceedings keenly, demonstrating their commitment to the institution's quality objectives and customer-focused service delivery.

The audit exercise will involve the assessment of selected academic, administrative, and support units to verify compliance with ISO 9001:2015 requirements and ensure continual improvement of processes and services.

Egerton University first adopted the ISO 9001 Quality Management System as part of its strategic commitment to institutional excellence and remains dedicated to maintaining internationally recognized standards that support its mission of transforming lives through quality education, research, innovation, and community engagement.
