The award of a Certificate of Registration as a Qualification Awarding Body marks a major milestone for Egerton University, following a rigorous assessment process by the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA).
The assessment was conducted months earlier at the University’s Main Campus in Egerton, where the KNQA team, led by Chairman Stanley Kiptis, was by then received by the Vice-Chancellor Prof Isaac Kibwage, who set the pace and environment for the team. The team inspected faculties, laboratories, classrooms, facilities, and extracurricular infrastructure to verify their adequacy in supporting quality learning.
The certificate was presented by Hon. Kiptis alongside KNQA CEO/Director General Alice Kande, and was received on behalf of the University by the Registrar (Academic Affairs).

“This recognition affirms Egerton University’s compliance with national standards and its continued alignment with the qualification’s framework, strengthening its position as a center of excellence in higher education, research, and innovation,” Said Kiptis, KNQA Chairman.
The process culminated on Monday, 30th March 2026, when the University received the official certificate during a two-day workshop held at the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization in Naivasha.
In the Naivasha Workshop, the University leadership was represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics, Research and Extension), Bernard Aduda. The event also brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Commission for University Education and the State Department for Higher Education, as well as Deans and Directors from Egerton University.
"The successful registration marks an important step in strengthening the University’s position in higher education and will significantly boost the value and portability of degrees and certificates earned by its graduates," said Prof. Aduda.

It was graced by the Deputy Commission Secretary of the Commission for University Education (CUE), Dr. Marete and the State Department for Higher Education, Mr. Abdi Adan.
This registration formally recognizes Egerton University as a compliant qualification-awarding institution under the national framework. It ensures that its academic programmes meet required quality standards and enhances the credibility, comparability, and global recognition of its degrees and certificates.
The achievement strengthens the University’s position as a centre of excellence in higher education, research, and innovation, while significantly boosting the value and portability of its graduates’ qualifications both locally and internationally.

The occasion brought together Deans of various Faculties and Directors of Academic Directorates from Egerton University, who had gathered at KALRO Naivasha for the registration of university programmes with the Kenya National Qualifications Authority.
This means that the qualifications awarded by Egerton University will enjoy enhanced recognition both locally within Kenya and internationally across the globe.
