Nairobi, May 25, 2026 —Egerton University and Corporation For Africa and Overseas (CFAO-Kenya) today formally entered into a strategic partnership aimed at promoting mechanized agriculture at the University through Faculty of Agricultural Engineering.
The long term partnership formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding ( MOU) was officiated by Professor Isaac Kibwage, Vice-Chancellor of Egerton University, in the present of University Management and senior representatives from Cfao-Kenya led by their Finance Director Mr. Patrick Karanja.
Senior Management members who witnessed the operationalization of the MOU were; DVC- Academic Affairs Prof. Bernard Aduda, DVC- Administration, Finance and Planning Prof. George Muthaa, Registrar Academic Affairs. Prof. Mwanarusi Saidi, Principal City Campus-Prof. George Ogendi, Director- Research and Extension Prof. George Owuor, Dean- Faculty of Agricultural Engineering Prof. Japheth Oyando and University Librarian- Ms JaneGrace Kinyanjui and Ag. Chief Finance Office Mr. Anthony Ndukanio.
The collaboration seeks to enhance agricultural productivity through the adoption of modern mechanization technologies. By leveraging Cfao’s expertise in agriculture machinery and Egerton University’s research and training capabilities, the partnership aims to equip farmers with affordable, efficient mechanization solutions that can boost yields, reduce labor burdens, and improve food security in Kenya.
During meeting held in his office, Professor Kibwage emphasized the university’s commitment to innovation and applied research in agriculture. He said the engagement was a better collaboration between the organization, staff and students in knowledge-sharing through practical experience which will see Agriculture students tap into skills management, and specific mentorship programs offered by Cfao-Kenya.

The Vice Chancellor thanked Cfao-Kenya for the continued cooperation and support of training 700 Tractor Operator since 2023 and training and organizing Farmers Open Days at the University. Today Cfao-Kenya donated two tractor engines to the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering for the purposes of training.
This partnership will also help in integrating some aspects of learning processes into country’s new curriculum -Based Education ( CBE) and outreach programs, that public universities are working on and Egerton will enhance capacity building on training.
Representatives from Cfao-Kenya led by Finance Director Mr. Patrick Karanja expressed their appreciation for working with Egerton University to train the next generation of agri-entrepreneurs and to facilitate technology transfer.
The collaboration will include joint training programs, a 3 year- apprenticeship program with guarantee of being employed by Cfao-Kenya , Internship and Attachments to graduates, research projects, and pilot initiatives by students aimed at demonstrating the benefits of mechanized farming.
Cfao-Kenya has been providing training to personnel, student mentorship programmes through Alumni where out of 60 of their employees , 15 employees are Alumni of Egerton University.
