Egerton University has officially received its ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) certification from the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), marking a major milestone in the institution’s pursuit of excellence and international recognition. The launch event, held at the Main Campus in Njoro, brought together members of the University Council, management, staff, students, and key stakeholders to celebrate the achievement.

In his address, Chairman of Council, Prof. James K. Sang, lauded the certification as a symbol of Egerton’s ongoing transformation and commitment to global standards of quality.
“The certification we celebrate today is not an end in itself but a milestone in our continuous improvement journey,” Prof. Sang said. “It signals to our students, partners, and the broader community that Egerton University is serious about quality and achieving results that meet and exceed expectations.”
He added that the University Council would continue to monitor the implementation of the QMS and ensure that evidence-based decision-making and accountability remain central to the institution’s operations.

“May this certification mark the beginning of a new chapter of institutional transformation for Egerton University,” he concluded.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac O. Kibwage, commended the university community for their dedication throughout the certification process, describing it as the product of sustained effort, collaboration, and a shared vision for quality.
“Over the past months and indeed years, we have embarked on a conscious journey to embed a culture of quality in every facet of our operations,” he said. “This certification demonstrates that our systems are not just compliant but continuously improving in line with international best practices.”
He emphasized that Egerton would now sharpen its focus on student and stakeholder satisfaction, streamline processes, and ensure that decisions are guided by performance data and feedback.
“With this achievement, Egerton University reaffirms its mission of Transforming Lives through Quality Education,” he stated.
During the event, the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) congratulated Egerton on the milestone and pledged continued collaboration. The KEBS representative announced that the bureau plans to establish a Quality Assurance Base at Egerton University, adjacent to the County Aggregation Industrial Park and Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in Njoro.
“We will be writing formally to seek this space, Mr. Vice Chancellor, Sir,” the representative said, noting that the initiative would strengthen quality control, standards development, and industrial growth in the Rift Valley region.

KEBS also emphasized that achieving ISO certification is only the beginning of a continuous process of maintaining and enhancing standards.
“Attainment of standards is a process, and maintenance is key,” the representative reiterated. “Quality must be lived every day, in every department, and in every decision.”
On social media, KEBS celebrated Egerton’s achievement, posting: “Attainment of the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System Recertification is not a mean fete and it deserved a dance.”
The ISO 9001:2015 certification marks a defining moment for Egerton University ,not only validating its commitment to excellence but also setting the stage for stronger partnerships in research, industry, and national quality assurance.
