Egerton University host the 13th Edition of the Kenya University Sports Federation (KUSF) at the Njoro Main Campus, Nakuru County.
Newslink| March 8, 2024 The Chief Guest Prof. Nancy Mungai, Director Research and Extension launched the games bringing a perfect blend of promoting research sports, as Kenya is undergoing the Competency Based Curriculum, that emphasizes on skills and talent as a way to embrace diversity in the ability of learners. In the three days event, Universities in the Country will pitch tent at Egerton University sports pavilion, an institution that has nurtured talents since its first stone in 1938, by Lord Maurice Egerton of Tatton, United Kingdom. The University boasts of world class sports facility; from the football pitches, hockey pitches, basketball courts, Rugby pitches, Olympic size Swimming pool and indoor games like table tennis, law tennis, darts and many others. Graced by the presence of the Dean of Students Dr. Japhet Muthamia, the KUSF sports is comes in the backdrop of the just concluded Run For the Mau Cross country on March 2, 2024 last Saturday, signalling Egerton university as a hallmark of sports and Academia to promote social inclusion for the youth stakeholders and community. Egerton University FC, began the first game against Kenyatta University FC in the 90" game that Prof. Mungai flagged off. KUSF President, KUSF Public Relations Officer Hellen Ng'ethe, represented the agency during the opening forum. COELIB Media sound system together with DJ Dexter (Kevin Maina) a second-year student pursuing Actuarial Science offered the entertainment services during the KUSF event. KUSF Chairman Mbaabu Murithi, Secretary General Joseph Sandagi Kidake and Treasurer Kibet Rono worked together with their teams from diverse universities in Kenya and chose Egerton University as the host this year. This is a testament of the University's ability to manage National events of large crowds with its well-maintained resources. Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaac Kibwage welcomed the event and observed that it is a way to nurture all rounded students who can impact positively in the society. Egerton University Sports Officer Mr Phillip Mwanzia and Deputy Chief Sports Officer Stephen Mungai observed the kick off of the KUSF 13th Edition at the Sports pavilion was a success. "We have been planning and hope to finalize well," Said Mr Mungai, the Acting Chief Sports Officer, Egerton University. Among the Universities present were: Ztech University, Kisii University, Kenyatta University, University of Eldoret, Technical University of Kenya, Tharaka University, KCA University, Daystar University, St. Paul University, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga of Science and Technology (JOOST), Embu University, Technical University of Mombasa, Chuka University, JKUAT University, Moi University, Kiriri Women University of Science and Technology among others.
