Egerton University has embarked on a comprehensive ISO training program for its technical and administrative staff, marking a significant step towards enhancing service delivery to its clients and stakeholders. The training, led by Prof. Paul Mutua Makenzi and the ISO secretariat, began on Friday morning and involves over 200 staff members. The aim is to sensitize the staff on the importance of ISO standardization in refining the University’s procedures and processes.

The University has earnestly begun implementing ISO 9000:2015, the latest version of a family of standards that describe the fundamental concepts and principles of quality management. These standards are universally applicable to organizations seeking success through their management system, supply chain logistics, internal communications, and more. This initiative represents another attempt by the University to make a comeback after a hiatus from global standards. This year's resolve to implement ISO standards at Egerton is a milestone as the University reasserts its position as an institution of higher learning committed to 'Transforming lives through Quality Education.'
A quality management system (QMS) is a structured way of doing things in an organization to achieve intended results aligned with overall goals. It generally consists of a structure of processes, people, machines, and other resources to realize quality objectives. The implementation of ISO 9000:2015 at Egerton University aims to establish a robust QMS that enhances efficiency and effectiveness across various departments and faculties.
The training comes at a time when the University is making transformations across its faculties, directorates, and departments to make them more active and capable of offering cutting-edge services to students, staff, and clients. A notable example of the University’s commitment to excellence through ISO standardization is the revitalization of the Dairy Department, which has reintroduced the coveted Egerton Yogurt in new packaging and at affordable prices. Additionally, the Tatton Farm of Egerton University has been revived, earning accolades at the Nakuru National Agricultural Show, including the best Jersey cow and top honors in research and innovation, as well as the best interpretation of this year’s show theme.
If successfully and conclusively implemented, the ISO 9000:2015 standards will be a game changer that will cement Egerton University’s reputation as a global leader in education. Since its inception in 1939, the University has consistently produced outstanding alumni who excel both locally and internationally, thanks to the quality education provided.
During the training sessions, participants actively engaged with the content, asking questions and demonstrating a strong willingness to embrace the standardization process. Ms. Frida Murugi of the ISO secretariat facilitated the sessions, guiding the staff through the intricacies of ISO implementation. The active participation and enthusiasm exhibited by the staff signal a renewed spirit and determination to enhance the quality of services, goods, and education at Egerton University.
