EUASWE Chairman, Dr. Justin Moturi Ombati, welcomed members and emphasized the association’s role in strengthening social and professional bonds.
The Secretary, Treasurer, and Dr. Robert Mugo presented reports highlighting EUASWE’s financial health and impact. Members contribute Ksh 500 monthly, enabling the association to provide emergency financial support, facilitate social events, and create a strong support network for staff. Since its inception in 2018, EUASWE has grown to nearly 239 members, cutting across senior management and junior teaching staff.
The EUASWE’s efforts in fostering a strong and inclusive academic community has been hailed by members and the rest of the University staff. Key agenda items included discussions on constitutional amendments, led by the Treasurer, and the unveiling of new officials by the Chairman.
Deputy Vice Chancellors for Academic, Research & Extension (AR&E) and Administration, Finance & Planning (AF&P) addressed members on the university’s commitment to staff welfare. Prof. Richard Mulwa, the DVC AF&P and an EUASWE member, emphasized the importance of collaboration among staff. "We relate as colleagues whenever we meet, beyond official duties," he said.
"We were initially affected by COVID-19, but people have remained steadfast and committed to their work. The importance of bonding is what we are bringing out—friendships, networking, and social connections are now things we truly value," noted Dr. Flora Fedha, Dean of the Faculty of Education and Community Studies.
The AGM concluded with a session on resolutions, presented by the Secretary, and a vote of thanks from the outgoing team. New members were welcomed into the association, with discussions highlighting staff happiness as a key priority for future leadership.
EUASWE continues to promote diversity, social inclusion, and professional growth by recognizing members' unique talents, hobbies, and passions, making Egerton University a more supportive and cohesive workplace.
