SUMMARY

Dr. Samson O. Obure is a long serving academician at Egerton University, having served in various capacities of leadership as the Dean of Faculty and Chairman of  Department besides teaching and Research related activities. He's the Current Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences - Egerton University

1992:   MMED (Internal Medicine), University of Nairobi,

1986:   Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB), University of Nairobi.

1996:   Certificate in Gastroenterology – International Post Graduate Training, In Tel Aviv University - Israel.

2002:   Fellowship in Transfusion Medicine, Emory University, Atlanta GA, U.S.A

2001:  Certificate in Blood Transfusion Management, Nakasero Blood Bank, Uganda

WORK EXPERIENCE
  1. 1992 to 1994: Consultant Physician at Provincial General Hospital Nakuru.
  1. 1994 to 1999: Medical Superintendent at the Provincial General Hospital Nakuru.
  1. 2001 to 2006: Medical Director, Regional Blood Transfusion Centre, Nakuru.
  1. 2006 to 2009: Lecturer Egerton University (Physiology and Internal Medicine)
  1. 2008 to 2014 Chairman, Department of Medical Physiology, Egerton University.

Was the Founding chair of the department,reputed to have built the department from scratch,encouraged many young Kenyans to join Faculty and build their carriers.

One of then earned a PhD from China and rose to replace me as COD. The current one too ascended to the department with my encouragement.

Sacrificed my own growth to allow my junior colleagues to earn higher degrees.

  1. 2015 to Aug. 2017: Dean Faculty of Health Sciences (first term), Egerton University.
  1. 2017 to Sept 2019: Reappointed to Dean Faculty of Health Sciences (second term).
  1. August 2019 to date: Transferred to the Department of Internal Medicine, as Senior Lecturer, Egerton University.
  1. March 2022: Appointed to the project implementation committee of the Kenya United Kingdom Health Alliance.
  1. May 2022 to date: Appointed as Chairman of the steering committee for the establishment of Centres of Excellence in Respiratory Diseases at Egerton Node.
  1. 2023 to date: Appointed as Acting Dean Faculty of Health Sciences (third term).
  2. Jan. 2025                              Persists as Dean FHS.

During my time as Dean Of Faculty, I have diligently carried out my duties in teaching and administration.

2.Principal Applicant for grant to Global Health Workforce Programme-improving patient safety through mutual learning between UK and Kenya,and supporting improvements to the regulation and pre-service training of health care sector in Kenya.

3.Chaired a collaborative Research grant bid for a study on Helicobacter Pylori infections, 2024

EXTERNAL EXAMINATION

Appointed and reappointed thrice as External Examiner at School of Biological Sciences of Technical University of Kenya.

Examined in the areas of Physiology,Transfussion Sciences,Anatomy,Parasitology,Microbilogy and virology.

MOUs SPEARHEADED

Egerton - PGH Nakuru twice. One during my first time as Dean of Faculty, second the current one during my 3rd term as Dean.

Egerton-Tel Aviv University Israel; during this MOU I particulary campaigned in Tel Aviv with fruits of establishing support for the Faculty Skills Lab. The intension being to support Simulation in learning at Egerton University FHS

 Egerton -Technion University MoU (lapsed)

Egerton-Kukha MOU; While serving in the spearheading committee with the ultimate goal of establishing Centre of excelleng in Respiratory Diseases at Egerton.

Currently the MOU is active with joint research activities between Kenya(Egerton ) and UK institutions.

This is part of knowledge exchange which has also included online webiners.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

  1. Nyamaonde SDA Church project;

Spearheaded tiling of the Church floor by mobilizing funds and guiding the appropriate tiling.

The church is now complete and in use by the local community.

2. Nyamaonde  Dispensary

 

Spearheaded The construction of the Dispensary on an earmarked ground by the Government of Kenya.

The Dispensary received its first Dispensary KIT by my intervension—I talked to my PMO colleague.

 

3. School Board Membership

Served as a board member of Kereri girls High school in the 1995 to 2000.

 

  1. Scholarship support for the needy

I have supported atleast 5 needy students by paying their fees.

2 are ongoing with their Education.

1 progressed to graduate with Bcom degree.

1 completed diploma in clinical medicine and later Higher diploma in anaesthesia.
