SUMMARY

Dr. Samson O. Obure is a long serving academician at Egerton University and senior consultant (Internal Medicine),  he has  served in various capacities of leadership as the Dean of Faculty and Chairman of  Department of physiology and Internal Medicine besides teaching and Research related activities. He's the Current Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences - Egerton University

He diligently carries his duties in teaching, administration and health related activities  at the University and the Nakuru County Teaching and Referral Hospital

He was the founding chair of the department, reputed to have built the department from scratch and encouraged many young Kenyans to join Faculty and build their carriers, he sacrificed his own growth to allow junior colleagues to earn higher degrees, and some earned PhDs and rose to take up leadership roles.

He has been part of different projects and collaborations with international partners  with the aim of improving the quality of learning as per the vision and mision of Egerton University.

He has forseen development of simulation-based Education at the Faculty of Health sciences, developing and equiping the simulation Laboratory both at the faculty and the Nakuru County Teaching and referral Hospital through collaborations and support from the University

He is a strong champion against traditional practices that  negatively impact on health, through support from the Africa coordinating centre for the Abandonment of FGM (ACCAF) and The Girl Generation Africa Led Movement (TGG-ALM), he has facilitated and supported faculty who have continued to train and certify all final year medical students on End FGM interventions with the aim of  reducing medicalization of FGM and stopping  FGM within their generation. On this, Egerton University FHS has been credited as the best getting recognition from ACCAF.

He has initiated and forseen signing of MOUs between different stakeholders with the most recent (in progress) being between Egerton University and TalentOrange for the Ministry of Health-Germany

Collaborative Researches with KUKHA (Kenya UK Health Alliance)

Principal Investigator:  Global Health Workforce Programme grant-improving patient safety through mutual learning between UK and Kenya,and supporting improvements to the regulation and pre-service training of health care sector in Kenya.

2024: Chaired a collaborative Research grant bid for a study on Helicobacter Pylori infections

2022 to date: 'End Female Genital Mutilation' By Africa Coordinating Centre for the Abandonment of FGM( ACCAF] aimed at training Medical students on End Female Genital Mutilation (Medicalization and management of complications) in response to global challenges.

2021-‘SIMULATION ON WHEELS’ AND WATER SAFETY PROJECT: A mobile capacity building project to improve maternal, neonatal,  basic trauma management  and water safety  in peri-urban and  rural health facilities and communities in Nakuru County.

2016-2020-CONTINOUS POSITIVE AIRWAY PRESSURE (CPAP): Building capacity for the use of neonatal cpap at the Nakuru County Referral Hospital, Kenya (Rotary International Global Grant (GG1862566)

MOUs SPEARHEADED

Egerton - PGH Nakuru twice. One during my first time as Dean of Faculty, second the current one during my 3rd term as Dean.

Egerton-Tel Aviv University Israel; during this MOU I particulary campaigned in Tel Aviv with fruits of establishing support for the Faculty Skills Lab. The intension being to support Simulation in learning at Egerton University FHS

 Egerton -Technion University MoU (lapsed)

Egerton-Kukha MOU; While serving in the spearheading committee with the ultimate goal of establishing Centre of excelleng in Respiratory Diseases at Egerton.

Currently the MOU is active with joint research activities between Kenya(Egerton ) and UK institutions.

This is part of knowledge exchange which has also included online webiners.

TALENTORANGE MOU-This is an MOU in progress we are working on,which will enable our BSc nursing graduands get employment in German soon after graduation. the orange organisation shall train the interested candidates the German language and get them jobs.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Nyamaonde SDA Church project; Spearheaded tiling of the Church floor by mobilizing funds and guiding the appropriate tiling, he church is now complete and in use by the local community.

Nyamaonde  Dispensary; Spearheaded The construction of the Dispensary on an earmarked ground by the Government of Kenya, the Dispensary received its first Dispensary KIT by my intervension—I talked to my PMO colleague.

School Board Membership: Served as a board member of Kereri girls High school in the 1995 to 2000.

Scholarship support for the needy: Supported at least 5 needy students by paying their fees: 2 are ongoing with their Education, 1 progressed to graduate with Bcom degree, 1 completed diploma in clinical medicine and later Higher diploma in anaesthesia.
