Egerton University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Kibwage, has congratulated the newly elected Egerton University Students Association (EUSA) leaders and urged them to lead with integrity and diligence.
“I want to congratulate you once again for earning the mandate to lead the student body,” Prof. Kibwage said while welcoming the new student leadership during their swearing-in ceremony.
In his speech, Prof. Kibwage emphasized the importance of student leaders making a meaningful impact during their tenure for the benefit of both students and the university community.
“Congratulations on winning this election. I am happy that you conducted a peaceful campaign. Now, it is time to accommodate those who did not win,” he remarked.
He acknowledged that leadership is a challenging responsibility and encouraged the student leaders to handle student affairs diligently while balancing their academic commitments.
“Do not spend too much time on student issues at the expense of your studies. Some matters can be addressed directly at our offices, as they are open to all students seeking guidance and support,” he explained.
Prof. Kibwage further urged the leaders to uphold integrity.
“If you lead well here, you can go on to serve society in larger capacities. Seek guidance where needed, consult widely, and do not hesitate to approach me for clarity,” he advised.
Encouraging student engagement, he urged them to take pride in Egerton University and actively promote its excellence.
“For instance, take pictures and share your engagements with students. Let them know their leaders are working. For example, you can post that Mutuma is the EUSA Chairman,” he added.

He reminded the student leaders to carefully read and understand their mandate, emphasizing service to students over personal interests.
“The students demonstrated maturity during this election. Unlike in the past, no university property was destroyed, even when the results did not meet some expectations,” he observed.
Prof. Mulwa assured students that their concerns would be addressed efficiently.
“We have installed Wi-Fi in the hostels and will continue expanding coverage across the university to enhance research and studies. The student portal is also being upgraded for smoother operation. Additionally, student ID cards are being processed, and we will ensure that all students are treated with dignity at the university gates and facilities,” he affirmed.

“This is a crucial event as it shapes the direction of the student body. I sincerely congratulate you. Many were interested in these positions, but only a few made it. As you assume office, remember that leadership at this level requires integrity, commitment, and dedication beyond financial and power benefits,” she said.
She challenged the student leaders to strike a balance between leadership and academics to excel in both.
“The campaign period is over. Now, take up your responsibilities diligently. We expect no disappointments from any stakeholder,” she added.
She also encouraged the outgoing leaders to carry forward the leadership ethics and skills they had acquired into their next phases of life.
Election Commission Lauds Smooth Polls
The university’s election commission thanked the Senate for integrating student elections into the university calendar.

He noted that student complaints were promptly addressed by the deans' committees, ensuring smooth resolution.
“This year’s voter turnout increased from 17% to 40%, thanks to effective communication with students. The online voting system is working well, and we will continue refining it for an even smoother experience in the future,” he observed.
