School Visits: Egerton University - Inspiring and Benchmarking Hub for Primary, High School, and Higher Education Institutions

Egerton University, a renowned agricultural institution in Kenya, has become a popular destination for educational visits by both local and international schools. These visits provide students with the opportunity to witness the state-of-the-art agricultural facilities and gain valuable information about higher education, career development, agricultural technologies, and innovations at the university

Over the years, schools from all corners of the country have had the privilege to participate in the visitation program. The Directorate of Marketing and Resource Mobilization at Egerton University led by Professor Paul Kimurto plays a vital role in organizing these visits to ensure customer satisfaction, promote the university's programs and services, and generate income.

Professor Paul Kimurto expressed his enthusiasm for welcoming visitors from all over the country, particularly students from high schools and secondary levels. He highlighted the importance of such visits, as they provide exposure and knowledge to students who are about to embark on their next academic journey. Additionally, the interaction between students from different schools allows them to learn from one another and gain insights into the diverse educational experiences across the country.

The primary and high school educational visitation program at Egerton University plays a crucial role in providing students with exposure to higher education, career opportunities, and the latest advancements in agricultural sciences. These visits foster a spirit of learning and exploration, empowering students to make informed decisions about their academic and professional futures.

It is a multifaceted program with a raft of aims. Firstly, it aims to enlighten visitors about the rich history and heritage of the university, including the famous Lord Egerton Castle. Secondly, it provides students with a deeper understanding of career development pathways, emphasizing the importance of higher education. Moreover, students get the chance to learn about the programs offered at Egerton University and the basic requirements for enrolment.

” We are grateful for the visit. The program sheds light on the various opportunities available in both the curriculum and extra-curricular fields The welcome is awesome and our students have truly benefitted from the visit,”said Mr  Wilson Kariankei a teacher at Olderkesi secondary school Narok county on May 17, 2023 ( (Photo:Ian Martin/Egerton University)

The program encompasses a series of key activities, with each faculty and department at the university assigned a facilitator to guide the visiting students throughout their visit. These facilitators, consisting of university staff and student guides, receive a nominal payment of Kshs 100 for their services. The funds obtained from these payments are then utilized to support the endowment fund under the Vice-Chancellor's office. The collaboration between the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and the Department of Marketing and Resource Mobilization ensures the smooth processing of payments for students and facilitators.

During the visit, guests have the opportunity to explore various centers within the university, including the Faculty of Agriculture, Engineering, Agro-science Park, Botanical Garden, and the iconic Lord Egerton Castle. These stations showcase the cutting-edge facilities, research, and academic resources available at Egerton University.
