Egerton University recently participated in a two-day open session held at KALRO Kabete, where it showcased a range of agricultural innovations and promoted its academic programs from undergraduate to postgraduate levels.
The university's delegation included Dr. Karanja Kinuthia, an Agricultural Biotechnology specialist, Ms. Serah Njambi from the Directorate of Marketing and Resource Mobilization, Mr. Kurian Musa, the Communication Officer, Ms. Celestine from the Admissions Office, Mr. John Supeiyo, a Research Assistant at the Agro-Science Park, and Haron representing the TAGDEV Project.
Among the products showcased were horticultural products, honey produced, processed, and packaged at the university, various varieties of bean seeds, chickpeas, and the latest groundnut innovation.
Dr. Karanja Kinuthia expressed his satisfaction with the opportunity to engage with stakeholders, particularly highlighting the longstanding collaboration with KALRO Biotechnology Centre. He remarked, "It is good to find colleague researchers to see what they are showcasing in this field day."
Egerton University distinguished itself as the sole exhibitor among universities in the country, reinforcing its position as a leader in agricultural training.
Alumni Relations
The event also provided a platform for alumni to reconnect and learn about the university's latest developments. Susan Wangeci Mwangi, a member of the 1985 class, reminisced about her time at Egerton. "I am happy to reconnect with my alma mater," she said. "I was at Egerton in 1985 when we were told that the university is going to be a full university soon."
Established in 1939 with the motto "Transforming Lives through Quality Education," Egerton University offers a diverse range of academic programs across ten faculties. Currently, it boasts over 70 academic courses and is home to approximately 468 academic staff. The university is led by Chancellor Dr. Narendra Rameshchandra Raval, EBS, and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Isaac Kibwage.
The participation of Egerton University in events like the KALRO Kabete open session underscores its commitment to innovation, research, and the development of agricultural practices in Kenya.
