The Mau-Egerton University Cross Country has a proud tradition of promoting athletics and environmental conservation. Over the years, distinguished Kenyan athletes have served as Brand Ambassadors, inspiring students and the wider community. Here’s a brief introduction to our current and past ambassadors:
Purity Chepkurui (Current Brand Ambassador – 10th Edition)
Purity Chepkurui is a rising star in Kenyan athletics, excelling in the 1500m. She won gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, showcasing her remarkable talent and determination.
Faith Kipyegon (Former and Current Brand Ambassador – 10th Edition)
Faith Kipyegon is a two-time Olympic champion (2016, 2020) and one of the greatest middle-distance runners in history. She holds world records in the 1500m, mile, and 5000m, cementing her status as a global athletics icon.
David Rudisha (Former Brand Ambassador)
David Rudisha is a legendary middle-distance runner and the greatest 800m athlete of all time. He won back-to-back Olympic gold medals (2012, 2016) and set the current 800m world record of 1:40.91 in a historic race at the London 2012 Olympics.
Ezekiel Kemboi (Former Brand Ambassador)
Ezekiel Kemboi is one of Kenya’s most accomplished steeplechase athletes. A two-time Olympic gold medalist (Athens 2004 and London 2012) and four-time World Champion (2009, 2011, 2013, 2015), Kemboi dominated the 3000m steeplechase for over a decade.
Mercy Cherono (Former Brand Ambassador)
Mercy Cherono is a celebrated middle and long-distance runner specializing in the 5000m. She won silver at the 2013 World Championships and has secured multiple victories in the Diamond League. A former World Junior Champion, Cherono has inspired young athletes, particularly women, to embrace sports.
