Egerton University, Njoro – February 28, 2025
Excitement is building ahead of the Run for the Egerton University Mau Cross Country, set to take place tomorrow, March 1, 2025, at Egerton University’s Njoro Campus. The event, which has drawn wide interest from professional athletes, students, and environmental conservationists, aims to raise awareness and support for the restoration of the Mau Forest.
Participants will compete in five race categories—10km, 5km, 4km, 2km, and 1km—on a challenging but scenic route within the university. Organizers have finalized all preparations, ensuring smooth logistics, safety measures, and a well-marked course for runners.
Egerton University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Isaac Kibwage during the launch speech emphasized the institution’s commitment to environmental conservation through sports. “This cross-country event is not just about competition; it is a call to action for the protection of the Mau Forest, which is vital for Kenya’s water resources and biodiversity,” he said.
Athletes from across the country, including elite runners, have confirmed their participation, alongside university students and community members. The event has also received support from environmental groups, sponsors, and government agencies backing the cause.
With registration ongoing through link https://crosscountry.egerton.ac.ke/take-part and final arrangements in place, all eyes are on tomorrow’s races. The winners in each category will receive awards, while all participants will be recognized for their role in advocating for sustainable environmental practices.
As the countdown to the Run for the Egerton University Mau Cross Country reaches its final hours, anticipation is high for an exciting and meaningful event that blends athletics with conservation efforts.
