Egerton University on Thursday hosted a vibrant and well-attended 2025 Career Fair at its Njoro Campus, bringing together a wide array of stakeholders including top companies, state parastatals, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and community-based organisations (CBOs). The event, hailed as a resounding success, was a key platform for students to interact with potential employers and gain insights into emerging industry trends and job market expectations.
Dubbed as one of the university’s signature events, the Career Fair was organized under the leadership of Prof. Nzula Kitaka, Director of Marketing and Resource Mobilization. The event showcased the university’s commitment to bridging the gap between academia and industry.
“This Career Fair is not just an event — it’s a mission. It’s about bringing the world of work closer to our students and enabling them to visualize their future with clarity,” said Prof. Kitaka. “The turnout from both exhibitors and students has been phenomenal. We are truly grateful to our partners for making this a memorable event.”
Exhibitors at the fair included notable financial institutions such as Equity Bank, Absa Bank, and DT Bank, alongside other key organizations like the Nakuru Tourism Association, Geothermal Development Corporation, Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI), and a host of career placement firms and development agencies.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaac Kibwage, who officially opened the fair, emphasized the significance of such forums in enhancing student employability and thanked the participating organizations for their role in offering internships and mentorship to Egerton students.
“Our students must embrace every opportunity that exposes them to the realities of the job market,” Prof. Kibwage stated. “I deeply thank the companies and institutions that have taken the time to engage with our learners and provide them with internship openings. These gestures will go a long way in shaping their future careers.”
The Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Steve Omondi, was the host of the event, which was largely centered at the Faculty of Physical Sciences precincts. The area buzzed with activity as students interacted with professionals, submitted CVs, and explored internship openings.
Also present was Prof. Mwanarusi Saidi, the Registrar of Academics, who offered words of wisdom to the students. “Use this opportunity wisely,” she said. “Seek internships and be proactive in your pursuit of career clarity. Your professional journey begins here.”
Adding to this, Prof. Agnes Nkurumwa, the Director of Career Advisory, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to student development and career readiness. “Our office is actively putting up structures to ensure that our students receive the best services in career guidance and placement. We are working hard to ensure that no student is left behind,” she affirmed.
One of the highlights of the event was the participation of the Egerton University Alumni Association. Led by Dr. Richard Rop (Chair) and Dr. Wamukuru Kuria, the alumni team actively participated in the fair, sharing success stories and offering mentorship to current students.
Later in the day, the alumni delegation paid a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor’s Office, where they discussed strategies to enhance alumni-industry-university linkages. “Alumni are a crucial bridge between the university and the world of work,” said Dr. Rop. “We are committed to creating more pathways for fresh graduates to access opportunities through our networks.”
The 2025 Career Fair left a lasting impression on both students and staff, reaffirming Egerton University’s role as a leading institution dedicated to producing market-ready graduates and nurturing productive partnerships with industry stakeholders.
