Egerton University has embarked on an ambitious campus beautification and environmental greening initiative aimed at enhancing biodiversity, improving the aesthetic appeal of its Main Campus in Njoro, and reinforcing its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability.
The initiative, which commenced on 30 October 2026, is spearheaded by the Egerton University Environmental Association in collaboration with the University's Estates Department.
The exercise began at the University's main entrance, with the planting of ornamental trees and flowering species along the access routes and designated sections of the campus.
The programme involves strategically planting ornamental and flowering trees along pedestrian pathways, on both sides of the walkways, and in other identified locations across the campus.

Beyond improving the University's landscape, the initiative seeks to create a more attractive, greener and environmentally friendly learning and working environment for students, staff and visitors.
The greening exercise is expected to progressively cover all mapped areas and designated sections of the Main Campus, transforming the University's landscape into a vibrant green environment.
The planting programme will continue until the identified sites have been covered, with emphasis on maintaining a healthy, sustainable and visually appealing campus ecosystem.
The initiative reflects Egerton University's enduring environmental stewardship and its aspiration to strengthen its identity as one of Kenya's leading green universities.
It also provides an opportunity for students and staff to participate actively in environmental conservation while nurturing a shared responsibility for protecting and enhancing the University's natural surroundings.
Through this initiative, Egerton University is reaffirming its vision of maintaining a green, beautiful and sustainable campus where environmental responsibility complements academic excellence, research and community engagement.
The ultimate goal is to sustain Egerton University's legacy as one of Kenya's greenest universities, where environmental conservation is not merely an institutional commitment but a shared culture and enduring responsibility.
