Egerton University Culture Week culminates in Mr. and Miss Egerton University Competition


Egerton University, located in the beautiful town of Njoro, Nakuru County, is known for its academic excellence and its efforts to showcase the diversity of its student community, recently hosted the university’s annual Culture Week.

The Culture Week culminated in the highly anticipated Mr. and Miss Egerton University competition. It was an event that drew a lot of attention from the student community and the public alike, with six young men and women vying for the coveted titles of Mr. and Miss Egerton University.

miss egertonThe atmosphere was electric as the contestants strutted down the runway, showcasing their natural beauty and innate abilities. The judges had their work cut out for them as they evaluated each contestant's poise, personality, and overall presentation. After a tense evening, the judges finally declared the winners to the joy of the audience.

As the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs, Prof Benard Aduda represented the Vice Chancellor at the event and expressed his happiness in seeing the University showcase various talents, cultures, and cuisines, which is a reflection of the diversity of the student community. "The Culture Week is an excellent platform for the University to showcase its diversity and celebrate the different cultures of our students," he said.

The Deputy Vice-chancellor of Egerton University, Prof. Benard Aduda, also expressed his happiness in seeing the University showcase various talents, cultures, and cuisines, which is a reflection of the diversity of the student community.

The Culture Week was a moment of pride for the student community, with the event receiving high praise from the Deputy Governor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, and City Manager. " Culture Week is an important event for the University, as it celebrates the diversity of our students and brings together the student community and the public," said Prof Aduda.

The Mr. and Miss Egerton University competition was a highlight of Culture Week, with the winners announced at the end of a tense evening. Reagan Maswai took home the title of Mr. Egerton University 2023, followed by Ian Nyawira crowned the first runner-up, and Xaverious Brian as the second runner-up.

In the ladies’ category, Defney Kinara has been crowned Miss Egerton University 2023, with Macreen Akinyi as the first runner-up and Mwithali Gakii as the second runner-up. The winners were all smiles as they basked in the glory of their achievement, with the crowd cheering them on.

During the closing ceremony, the Deputy Governor of Nakuru County, Hon. Dr. Erick Korir, addressed the audience and congratulated the winners of the various competitions, and expressed his appreciation for the cultural exchange that took place during the week-long festival. He emphasized the importance of culture in promoting peace and unity among communities and encouraged everyone to continue embracing cultural diversity. He also acknowledged the efforts of the organizers and sponsors of the event and urged them to continue supporting cultural events in the future. Dr. Korir expressed his delight at the high turnout. He described the competition as a rare gesture that showcased the University's diverse cultures and talents.

"This is a great way for the University to celebrate its diversity and promote cultural awareness among students and the public," he said.

The Mr. and Miss Egerton University competition was not just about beauty, but it was also an excellent way to showcase the University's diverse cultures and talents. The event featured traditional dances, songs, and cuisines from various regions in Kenya, which highlighted the rich cultural heritage of the country. It was a moment of pride for the student community, and the event received high praise from the Deputy Governor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, and City Manager.

The City Manager of Nakuru County, Gitau Thabanja, was thrilled with the collaboration between the City and the University, saying that the event was a rare moment at the heart of the newest City in East Africa. He urged the winners to represent the University and Nakuru County well and continue to inspire other young people in their communities.

The Mr. and Miss Egerton University competition was not the only highlight of Culture Week. The event also showcased various talents, such as live music performances and book exhibitions, and offered career advisories from learning institutions. The University's diverse student community was also on full display, with students from different regions and ethnicities showcasing their cultures through traditional dress and performances.

The Culture Week of Egerton University is taking place after a four-year break and is back in style, with a working arrangement with other stakeholders to make it authentic. Mr. Gitau Kamau, Chief Officer of the office of the Governor, said that the cultural event would enhance public entertainment and recreation activities within the County. The event attracted hundreds of people who visited various exhibition points, and it provided a platform to market and package Nakuru as the only City in the world with a National Park and a lake.

The event was not just about entertainment but also about empowering the people of Nakuru County economically. The Trade, Tourism, and Cooperatives CECM, Hon Stephen Kuria, said that the County was pleased to present exhibitions of cultural and creative industries products. Hon Stephen Kuria commended the Governor's leadership in spearheading mutual collaborations to put the region on the global stage. "By placing an order and purchasing the beautiful products showcased in this exhibition, you are contributing to the livelihoods of artists, their families, and other dependents that they support," said Hon Kuria.

The Cultural Week of Egerton University took place after a four-year break. It is now back in style, with a working arrangement with other stakeholders to make it authentic.  

Mr. Kamau Kamau, Chief Officer of the office of the Governor, said the cultural event will enhance public entertainment and recreation activities within the County. The event also provided a platform for various institutions to showcase their programs and services. Punctuated with programs such as remarks, live performances, food, fellowship, book exhibitions, and career advisories from learning institutions, the event attracted hundreds of people who visited various exhibition points.
