Egerton University alumni and students have been encouraged to embrace the power of professional networks as a recent Alumni Connect webinar demonstrated how meaningful connections can translate into career opportunities, mentorship and collaborative ventures.
The virtual session brought together members of the Egerton community for an evening of learning, networking and professional engagement, with distinguished alumni Stephen, a Project Coordinator at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and Dennis, an insurance professional at Minet Kenya, sharing insights from their career journeys.
Discussions focused on career growth, professional networking and the importance of building meaningful relationships that can open doors to new opportunities.
Egerton University Director Marketing and Resource Mobilization Prof. Nzula Kitaka made opening remarks setting the tone and pace for the webinar. She was joined by Lecturers Dr Dickson Okello, Dr Wamukuru Kuria (Secretary General Egerton University Alumni Association)
The value of the alumni network became evident during the session when live employment networking resulted in an opportunity being matched with an Egerton alumna, underscoring the practical impact of connecting graduates across different sectors and professional fields.
Participants also explored emerging research funding opportunities in animal welfare and discussed possibilities for collaborative research involving international partners. The discussions highlighted the growing role of alumni networks in facilitating not only career advancement but also academic and research partnerships.

Another key outcome was the initiation of discussions on the development of affordable group health and last-expense insurance packages for Egerton University alumni. The proposed initiatives are aimed at enhancing the welfare and social protection of graduates while strengthening the value of continued engagement with the University after graduation.
The webinar also provided an opportunity for participants to pay tribute to the late Prof. Catherine Kitetu, whose contribution to Egerton University was remembered and celebrated by the alumni community.
The session reinforced the growing importance of the Egerton Alumni Network as a platform for mentorship, professional support, career opportunities and lifelong engagement. Through such initiatives, the University continues to strengthen relationships between its alumni, students and the institution.
The Egerton University Alumni Connect webinar is held every Thursday from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., providing a regular platform for graduates and students to reconnect, share experiences, mentor one another and explore opportunities for professional growth.
As the alumni community continues to expand, the initiative is positioning the Egerton network as a platform for creating opportunities, supporting students and graduates, and building lasting professional relationships.
Together, the Egerton community continues to reconnect, mentor, network and grow.
