Kenya Bureau Of Standards Conducts ISO Certification Audit at Egerton University


Kenya  Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has today, 15th July, 2025 commenced  ISO 9001:2015 Stage 2 Certification Audit, at Egerton University, Njoro Campus marking a significant milestone in checking the effectiveness of Quality management   Systems at the Institution.

This assessmnt is part of KEBS broader strategy to uphold international standards in Data collection, Management, and Documentation processes.

The three-day audit, running from July 15th to 17th, 2025, is aimed at assessing the university's compliance with international standards in Quality Management Systems (QMS) and continual improvement.

The event was officially opened by Professor Bernard Aduda, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic, Research and Extension) at Njoro Campus, with Prof Richard Mulwa, DVC- Administration, Finance and Planning.  In his opening remarks, Prof. Aduda emphasized the importance of quality assurance in enhancing service delivery, academic excellence, and institutional reputation.

Prof. Aduda expressed enthusiasm about the process and the University commitment to maintaining high standards that meet both national and international expectations. And that Egerton University will implement necessary improvements based on the assessment findings once the Audit exercise is over.

The entire ISO Audit is not just about certification but is meant to strengthen University internal systems, ensuring transparency and accountability, and ultimately delivering better services to students, staff, and stakeholders.

During the Audit exercise, all process owners across various departments and directorates are expected to demonstrate compliance with the ISO 9001:2015 standards. The audit will verify that documented processes are up-to-date, properly implemented, and effective in achieving the institution’s quality objectives.

The KEBs audit team, led by Isaac Mureithi (Led Auditor) include Davis Kimutai and Tyson Omondi leading the exercise at the Main campus and  Francisca Atieno and Julius Mrembe at the City Campus.

Isaac Muriithi-led Auditor emphasized the importance of this assessment that will reaffirm Egerton University's commitment to excellence in data quality. And that this Audit will also ensure that Quality Management Systems are aligned with Egerton University’s strategic goal of delivering quality education and is a collaborative effort where every process owner has a critical role to play.

The team will specifically assess conformity  of University Quality Management System ( QMS)  Documentation and ability to meet legal, regulatory and contractual obligations. Their effectiveness in achieving set objectives and opportunities for continual improvement.

The comprehensive audit schedule includes visits to a wide range of Departments and each department is being assessed against specific ISO 9001:2015 clauses such as Quality Objectives (6.2), Communication (7.4), Nonconformity and Corrective Action (10.2), and Continual Improvement (10.3), among others.
