The postgraduate diploma in environment and sustainable development is the first course
of its kind in the Eastern Africa region that addresses the two issues of environment and
sustainable development together. While we have many programmes in environment and
very few in sustainable development in Kenya, this course combines the two andbrings
out the best of each into one programme.
The course will contribute towards capacity building in environment and sustainable
development. Many governments, non-government and private sector organizations have
over the year‘s recruited staff with university degrees and diplomas that have over the
years been forced to take on responsibilities in environment and development.Despite
acquiring some good experience in the field, they still lack sufficient skills and
knowledge to tackle the increasing challenges. This course meets the needs of these staff
and those who are passionate about environment and development and are eager to make
a career change.
This is a conversion course for students who have no background in the area but are
interested in moving to the environment and development profession from almost any
discipline. It provides the necessary background knowledge about environmental and
development challenges confronting developing countries. It is particularly suited for
those interested to develop careers in environment and development especially with
government and civil society organizationsCSOs.
