The environment in which organizations operate today has increasingly become turbulent making it very complex for the organizations. The competition between business organizations has increased owing to globalization of the Economy. This requires adequate training in various areas of Business Management. Similarly the education sector has expanded rapidly hence requiring academicians of high calibre to train the students.
The general objective of this Programme is to produce competent professionals in Business and Management. On completion of the programme, the graduates should be able to:
v). Undertake critical examination and analysis of contemporary and emerging issues in Management.
vi). Apply Managerial knowledge and expertise in solving societal problems.
vii). Be Competitive in such careers as University lecturers and innovative researchers.
viii). Create linkages between the University and the Government and Industry.
v). Common Egerton University regulations for Admission to the PhD (Business and Management) shall apply.
vi).Applicants for this programme must be holders of Masters degree from Egerton University or from any other University recognized by Egerton senate in area of Business, Economics or related disciplines.
vii). Applicants must present a concept paper together with application for provisional registration.
viii). Full registration is granted only on successful development and defence of a research proposal and its approval by the Board of Postgraduate Studies.
Programme Structure and Duration
The Ph.D programme will extend for a minimum period of 36 months and a maximum of 75 months All candidates shall conduct independent research, with the direction of a subject specialist, write and submit a thesis, in fulfilment for Ph.D in Business and Management.
All candidates enrolled for the Ph.D. degree in Business and Management shall be required to conduct independent research, leading to writing of a thesis. The defense of the thesis shall be conducted in accordance with the rules established in Egerton University statute XXIX.
All examinations for the Doctor of Philosophy in Business and Management shall be conducted in accordance with examination regulations as stipulated in Egerton University Statute XXIX.
The grading of examination for PhD in Business and Management shall be in accordance with Egerton University Statute XXIX .
To graduate with a PhD in Business and Management a student shall be required to undertake independent research, submit a written thesis and pass an oral thesis examination.
The PhD in Business and Management is not classified.
